The developers behind the open source Fedora Operating System recently announced the official release of version 13, codenamed Goddard. It brings some important platform improvements and several new desktop applications including automatic printing and open source drivers.
This creation of open source graphics card drivers will allow users to get accelerated 3D graphics on the Linux desktop.
The Linux community has had a great deal of difficulty creating such drivers and had previously relied on proprietary drivers from graphics card vendors. But this new release supports several versions of ATI, Nvida and Intel graphics cards.
Red hat also states that the new system comes with several desktop productivity tools that promise to help software development and improve virtualization, other tools gives better color management and allows for automatic installation of printer drivers.
This new system will also have a simplified installer which offers several improvements since the old Fedora 11 installer, which often crashed and required restart and re-installation according to Ars Technica.
