Devices from television and gaming consoles are becoming more networked and a new report released by In-Stat reveals that devices with built-in Wi-Fi will rapidly increase their market over the next years.
CNET blogger Lance Whitney states the report says that shipments of Wi-Fi enabled televisions is believed to hit 65 million in 2004, compared to 2009; just a 5 million were sold.
Other Wi-Fi enabled entertainment devices will also increase their market share according to In-Stat:
- 515 million mobile phones will be shipped worldwide by 2014
- Tablet computers such as Apple’s iPad will reach 46 million, while notebook PC sales will top 265 million
Devices in other areas as well, such as Wi-Fi enabled Blu-ray players, gaming consoles, set-top boxes, and even digital photo frames will continue to increase.
Adding it all up, In-Stat says overall shipments of Wi-Fi enabled devices could reach 3.5 billion by 2014
When we sum it all together, In-Stat states that overall shipments of Wi-Fi enabled devices is believed to reach somewhere around 3.5 billion by 2014.
